What a Dachshund’s POV Taught Me About “Dog Speed”

Have you ever looked down at your dog during a casual neighborhood stroll and thought it would be a great idea to share this experience with the world? I did. So I strapped a camera to my miniature dachshund’s harness, hit record and let her take the lead. I uploaded the completely raw, uncut footage to YouTube and honestly? It completely changed how I view our daily walks.

The Miniature Perspective: Always in a Hurry

You might have seen those cute videos about dachshunds always being in a hurry, walking like they’re late for a business meeting. Well, my little experiment showed me how true that “funny dog meme” is.

Because the camera is mounted right on her harness, the lens points mostly toward the ground. At first, I wondered if I should edit it down or just scrap the idea all together. But as I watched the playback, I realized the low to the ground angle and the way my dog walks are exactly what makes it so fascinating.

From our human perspective a miniature dachshund looks like they are just trotting along. They look small, cute and relatively slow.

But from their perspective? They are absolutely flying. Constantly. Always.

Watching the pavement and grass blur past at lightning speed makes you realize that to a mini doxie, a standard walk is an Olympic sprint. They aren’t just walking; they are running, maneuvering and conquering the terrain. They are always in a hurry driven by an urgent need to investigate the surroundings.

Pure, Uncut Dog ASMR

Instead of over editing the video or adding background music, I decided to leave the footage completely raw. The result turned into an accidental ASMR. I find it oddly satisfying to see how my dog walks from her perspective.

If you need a mental break, a dose of wholesome energy or you just want to know what it feels like to be a sausage dog on a mission, give the video a watch.

And don’t forget to leave a comment letting me know if your dog is a speed-demon too!
